Louise, the main character of my novel was the product of an African woman and a British white Man. She was classified as a Malatto as a result of this fusion of color. As a result she  was also classified  as being ‘different’.  In Barbados  during the fifties, with the majority of the population being  of African descent, her skin tone was a huge issue!
